Growth is a goal for most leaders, but growth without perspective can create as many problems as it solves. This is why the G in MAGIC matters so much.
In TEC Canada, growth is understood in two dimensions. There is the growth of the organization, and there is the growth of the leader. The two are inseparable.
Growing the business, sustainably
Members of TEC groups lead successful organizations. They are already doing something right. Many are growing, expanding into new markets, adding products or services, and building larger teams.
As organizations grow, they also become more complex. New layers of management are required. Decision-making changes. Systems that worked at one stage no longer scale at the next. For many leaders, this creates unfamiliar territory.
This is where the peer group becomes invaluable.
Around the table are leaders who have already faced these moments. They have added layers too early or too late. They have learned where structure supports growth and where it stifles it. By sharing those experiences, they help others anticipate what is coming next and avoid costly missteps.
Growth becomes more deliberate. It is not just about speed, but about sustainability.
Growing as a leader
Business growth places new demands on the person at the top. What made someone successful at one stage may not be enough at the next. Leadership style, decision-making, and even personal resilience are all tested as complexity increases.
At the same time, life does not pause while the business grows. Personal events, family responsibilities, health challenges, or major transitions can affect focus, energy, and perspective.
TEC provides a rare space where leaders can speak honestly about these realities.
In a confidential and trusted environment, members can explore how personal growth and business growth intersect. They learn that they are not alone in facing these pressures, and they gain insight from others who have navigated similar moments.
A Real-World Example
(The following is a fictional case created for demonstration purposes.)
David is the owner of a growing professional services firm. The business has been performing well for several years. Demand is strong, new clients are coming in, and the team continues to expand.
At the same time, David is dealing with a significant personal change that is affecting his focus and energy. He notices that decisions which once felt straightforward now take longer. He feels stretched and increasingly reactive, even though the business appears healthy from the outside.
David brings this to his TEC group.
The discussion moves naturally between the business and personal dimensions of growth. Several members share experiences of leading through similar transitions. Others help David see that the organization is entering a new stage that requires different leadership, not less leadership.
Through the conversation, David realizes that growth does not mean carrying more weight alone. It means building stronger structure, delegating more deliberately, and adjusting how he spends his time and attention.
He leaves the meeting with a clearer sense of where to focus, what to let go of, and how to support both the business and himself through the next phase of growth.
That clarity allows the organization to continue growing in a sustainable way, while David grows into the next chapter of his leadership.
Why growth works in TEC
Growth in TEC is not accidental. It is supported by shared experience, thoughtful challenge, and a willingness to be open.
Leaders grow their organizations because they learn how to manage complexity more effectively. They grow personally because they are supported as whole people, not just as executives.
When both kinds of growth happen together, performance improves and leadership becomes more sustainable.
