I am delighted to announce a series of 3 webinars that I will host in the Spring 2016 Webinar series. They are each focused on a different area that causes real problems for managers. Each of the webinars focuses on one of the three biggest problems that I see in organizations to-day:
- Managers in different part of the organization not agreeing on how they work successfully together. Symptoms? Missed deadlines. Broken commitments. Late deliverables. Doubled work. See Conflict in the Work Place – the Culprit and the Solution below for details.
- Managers not doing their managerial work and calling it “empowerment”. And then wondering why subordinates go off track, miss deadlines, or focus on the wrong work. See The Secret Formula for Successful Empowerment below for details.
- Managers delegate, or at least believe they do, and then find that their subordinates really weren’t on board. Either they didn’t understand the context for the work, they completely misunderstood what they were supposed to do, or didn’t have the resources to be successful. See The Most Important Word in Managerial Leadership below for details.
These webinars are specifically designed for Managers of managers. During the Webinar we will focus on how you can break the cycle so your managers can be more successful. They will also be of interest to Heads of HR and HR professionals, and the content will give insights into programs and support that can help managers to be more effective. Finally, CEOs and Senior Executives can learn how they can ensure that organizational systems are in place to support managers being effective.
Too wide an audience? Not really! The concepts that need to be applied in organizations for manager effectiveness must be addressed by managers, Human Resources, and senior executive including the Head of the organization. I am excited to share them with you.
You can make a difference. The effectiveness of the managers is directly tied to increased productivity and profitability.
Join us for these FREE Effective Managers Webinars. Each Webinar is a maximum of 60 minutes in length, with 50 minutes of new and helpful content, followed by up to 10 minutes of discussion.
Please share this information with anyone you feel may be interested in learning more about managing effectively.
Webinar: Conflict in the Work Place – the Culprit and the Solution
Wednesday, May 4, 11:00 am EDT
In an article published in the March 2015 issue of Harvard Business Review, Sull, Homkes & Sull tell us that only 9% of managers say they can rely on colleagues in other functions and units all the time. That is terrible! No wonder our own Effective ManagersTM research tells us that managers are working at 55% effectiveness. To-days organizations are so complex that almost everyone relies on others for success in their work. And if they can’t be successful because a colleague let them down the result is conflict in the workplace.
In this Webinar we will describe the current situation that we find in organizations. You are not alone! We will then describe the most common causes for workplace conflict. Finally, we will give you some insights into how you can work differently, so your team can be more productive.

Webinar: The Secret Formula for Successful Empowerment
Wednesday, May 18, 11:00 am EDT
Employees should be empowered to make decisions. This is absolutely true, so why is it number four on the Effective ManagersTM list of “The Top 12 Fallacies That Get In The Way of Organizational Performance?”
All too often, managers misinterpret what empowering your employees means and go too far, by actually abdicating their managerial accountability and authority. Empowering your employees to make decisions is not the same thing as leaving them entirely to their own devices with no direction.
Making decisions, using judgment, and taking initiative are all positive characteristics, but they can’t contribute to an organization’s success if they take place in a vacuum. Without a shared understanding of common goals, your organization will be pulled in too many different directions
In this Webinar we will describe how empowerment is misused in organizations. We will then describe the managerial leadership work that need to be in place for successful empowerment. Finally, we will give you some insights into how you can work differently, so your team can be more productive.

Webinar: The Most Important Word in Managerial Leadership
Thursday, June 9, 11:00 am EDT
Because!
But not by itself. That could be bad… do this “just because” is not good delegation. It is what follows the word “because” that is important. “This is the work you need to do, and it is important because…” might be a better start.
At Effective ManagersTM we call this part of delegation the setting of context and boundaries. Managers often equate this to being too far into “command-and-control”. But the opposite is true. By setting context, managers give their subordinates the information they need to make decisions and take initiatives that are consistent with your overall objectives for the team.
Managers typically have more work than they can realistically handle in one day because work flows out into the future. This is as it should be. But the corollary is that your team members need enough information to prioritize the work, to decide where to expend their energies that day, that week, that month.
In this webinar we will describe the concept of context and boundaries, and how you can delegate to your team members in a way that will ensure they are clear about your expectations. Help your team members to focus in on what is important, and avoid the downsides of unclear delegation such as unclear or wrong priorities, missed or duplicated work and a lack of coordination between team members.
