Every year, TEC Chairs from across the country gather for our National Chair Convention what we fondly call the NCC. It’s a time to step away from our regular meeting cadence and reconnect with the broader TEC community of Chairs and head office team members, all dedicated to helping leaders thrive.
This year’s NCC was exceptional. The energy, the conversations, and the ideas shared left me both inspired and recharged. Every element of the program reflected TEC Canada’s deep commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence. From keynote speakers on storytelling and leadership to mindfulness sessions, breakout discussions, and practical workshops, the entire event reminded us why TEC remains the gold standard in peer advisory excellence.
The NCC is not just about listening to speakers. It’s about active learning, issue processing, sharing experiences, and translating insight into action. Sessions like “Compelling Selling”, “Revive the Room”, and “Lessons from 30 Years of Chairing” offered fresh perspectives that we Chairs can immediately bring back to our groups. Even the physical and reflective elements, such as the meditation and mobility sessions, reinforced the importance of balance and presence, something every leader needs more of.
Of course, TEC also knows how to create meaningful connections. The social activities, from the 40th Anniversary & Chair Awards Gala to the dinner at the Calgary Tower, were more than celebrations; they were opportunities to strengthen the relationships that make this community so powerful. Sharing time and stories with fellow Chairs from across the country reminded me that we are all part of something much bigger. We are a network of professionals dedicated to the success of our members.
As I reflect on the experience, I am reminded of what makes TEC unique: the Four Pillars that support every member’s journey: peer advisory groups, coaching, expert speakers, and a global network.
These pillars create the structure that helps leaders succeed, and the results show up in what we like to call MAGIC:
- Making better decisions
- Accountability
- Growth
- Isolation overcome
- Change embraced
The NCC gave us, as Chairs, the same gift we strive to give our members: perspective, encouragement, and the inspiration to keep getting better. TEC Canada continues to set the standard for professional development in the peer advisory world, helping each of us become stronger, more thoughtful facilitators of growth for the leaders we serve.
I came home from Calgary with a renewed sense of purpose, grateful for the chance to learn, to connect, and to celebrate what makes this community truly special.
